A Deeply Unnecessary Appreciation of Infinity

It's probably weird, but I've always loved the concept of infinity.

Honestly, even an empty infinite grid is enough to keep me entertained for hours. Sadly, after trying in vain to explain my feelings to some friends, I quickly discovered that enthusiasm for limitless nothingness is... well, not universal.

The public's response to infinity

So, after a few days of contemplation, I decided to make a simple web app to share the joy of infinity in a way that would (hopefully) make more sense to normal people.

Strangely enough, despite being one of the easiest things I've made, this page now gets more clicks than anything else on my website. Look at this:

I'm telling you, when I first saw that, I was indignant. I've literally spent years on some of the games on this site - yet the project I threw together in a single day is getting three times more views than my actual homepage.

Outrageous. Simply outrageous.

Anyway, back to infinite zooms. The inspiration for making the example above came from a cool demo I saw called "Pixel Words," by Frank Force. It's an infinite zoom and a crossword puzzle all in one. You should check it out!

It was an awesome concept, so I thought that making an overly-simplified online version of it would be a fun experiment.

Although being extremely easy to code, the technique mentioned in the outset is the absolutely not the most efficient way to create an infinite zoom, although I hope it gave you an small insight into the untold joys of infinity.

I also hope that this page will continue to inspire future generations to ponder once more upon the marvelous eternity of nothingness, and to find enlightenment from it, forever and ever.

See you next time!

Please give my game Io's Mission a try! Did you know that each level in it goes on forever in both directions? Let me know if you like it!
